The leadership tools below summarise the thinking frameworks and collaborative mindsets paul has honed over 30 years in community service. The intent is practical and political. The tools, frameworks, and mindsets posted below help leaders:

  • see systems as they are, including where power and harm are patterned;
  • match method to context so effort turns into results;
  • protect workers and communities from preventable harm; and
  • sustain energy through long arcs of reform.

paul believes kind politics is about vibrant political leadership. It speaks to community service leaders, public servants, community organisers, unionists, advocates, and people leaders who hold responsibility for the public good. The work is to move institutions toward equity, dignity, and ecological sustainability, and to keep them there when pressure rises. Vibrant leadership is a deliberate act, intended for universal application, and it excels when:

  • you are tackling wicked social problems and the usual approaches falter;
  • entrenched power pushes back and you need clean strategy;
  • time, energy, funds, or staffing are depleted and you must still move forward;
  • you are stuck, exhausted, or losing the story of why the work matters;
  • you need to turn community voice into decisions that hold;
  • a group keeps stalling and you want momentum without harm; and
  • you want leadership that is kind and firm at the same time.

This toolkit is evolving. paul welcomes you to share the frameworks you use to meet the pressing issues of our time

mindsets.
