What would it take to attract more tourists using recreational vehicles (RVs) to the City of Launceston?
paul mallett supports the City of Launceston to take strategic, practical and promotional steps to cater to the needs and preferences of RV travelers in order to boost our local economy.
paul supports measured further investment in:
- free or low cost RV parking areas (time limited and over night spots)
- dump points
- water fill stations
- accessible amenities
- signage encouraging and directing RV travelers to parking areas, amenities and local services (mechanics, tyre, repair centers)
- collaboration with business and tourism bodies to promote RV friendly status
- refreshed website information for RV travelers
paul also recognises the inherent tensions between the provision of “free” RV facilities and small business operators seeking to run sustainable caravan parks in our community. It is not the intention of this proposal to undermine their viability, rather it is the goal to simply attract more of the RV travelers visiting Tasmania who would not be using caravan park facilities to stay in our city. Our goal is to hold these travelers in our region longer, support them to experience our community, engage with local business and contribute to our economy, before they travel further afield.
