What would it take to transform the Hoblers Bridge Road complex into a sustainable all weather netball centre?
paul mallett proposes that all levels of government unite to fund the transformation of the Hoblers Bridge complex into a word class sporting centre for netball. The installation of a roof, fitted with solar cells and batteries to power the complex, plus the upgrading of change rooms and amenities for players and spectators, would provide the sport with an environmentally sustainable all weather facility.
paul mallett observes the imbalance in funding for upgrades to traditionally “male dominated” sports like football and cricket (noting the $130m upgrade to York Park), versus those sports with mass female participation – namely netball. Currently the Hoblers Bridge complex is open air and open to the elements. Players often play on wet, slippery or ice courts in winter, and are limited currently with night time training due to the limitation of lights.
